Sixth Form Staff v Student Football
1 Feb 2022
Every Friday, the sixth form students battle it out with staff on the pitch.
It is always something to look forward to at the end of a week of lessons, as the students kit up after 2:30 on a Friday and take to the pitch to play the teachers in a fierce rivalry like no other. The quality on the pitch is not something that can be bragged about, however, it is the enjoyment and having fun that counts.
In recent weeks, it tends to be the staff who have come out victorious. However, the students do still fire themselves up every week in the hope to win. It began in September, in the warmer months but has continued through the freezing winter with people still turning up in their numbers and returning back into the Sixth Form shivering and bright red.
There are sometimes struggles for numbers, with makeshift goalkeepers having to occasionally bite the bullet. However, if needed people compromise and switch the teams around. It always works out in the end, the students don’t care, as long as they play football they’re happy.
This is the sort of fun they may have felt they missed in secondary school, there was no opportunity to play the teachers until the final day of year 11. So being able to do this every Friday, brings an immense element of fun to college.
Football is a sport that the majority of students love, and is the perfect reward for getting through a tough week at college. It is a way to end the week on a positive note and then be refreshed ready for Monday and a new week.
This is something that makes Dyke House Sixth Form stand out as students can always look forward to Friday football, and is something that a lot of students around other colleges would recommend.
