Thorp students on placement at Newcastle University
17 Feb 2022
Abigail and Laurie from year 13 here at Thorp took part in a Marine Biology placement with Newcastle University this summer. During their placement they took part in ecological studies alongside university professors and phd students. They explored a range of different habitats both on land and at sea. They met researchers from across the world who showed them examples of rare species from different oceans. They also collected their own data which was presented at a conference where they created a scientific poster of their research and presented this to staff and students from the university. I was delighted that the students had taken this opportunity and even more so when they told me they had won first prize for their research and presentation.
This is a wonderful example of where biology can take our students and what can happen when opportunities are taken and would love this to be shared. We are so incredibly proud of the wonderful biologists that they are.
